History Of Eco Park Kolkata
Eco Park (Prakriti Shrine) is an urban park located in New Town Kolkata and the largest park in India to date. This park is spread over 480 acres (190 ha) of land and the park is surrounded by 104 acres (42 ha) of water body with an island in the middle, which adds to the beauty of the place.
This park was created to promote eco-tourism as well as to reduce the adverse effects on nature through the protection of natural landscapes from non-pollution. The park was conceptualized by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in July 2011.
With the creation of the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) Park; Various government bodies have taken responsibility for the implementation within the park.
Eco park is divided into three parts – 1) Ecological areas like wetlands, grasslands and urban forests 2) Garden areas like theme gardens, and open areas 3) Recreation areas. In addition, the eco-park is divided into different sub-sections according to the different planted fauna. Here the copy of the seven wonders of the world attracts more tourists.
As per the plan, the park will have different areas like a wild meadow, bamboo cultivation, tropical tree plantation, bonsai garden, tea garden, cactus walk, helicopter garden, and butterfly garden.
In addition, there are plans to develop an eco-resort through a public-private partnership and will also include an area where handicrafts from different parts of the state will be displayed. This park was inaugurated on 29 December 2012 by Mamta Banerjee .and was opened for visitors on 01 January 2013.

Eco Park is located at Major Authorise Road (Biswa Bangla Sarni) Action Area 2 New Town, Kolkata. The park is home to Kolkata’s Museum of Modern Art in the north, Central Business District, International Financial Hub, Kolkata International Convention Center, HIDCO Bhawan, Rabindra Tirtha in the east, and Hatiyara in the west. It is connected by VIP Road and EM Bypass.

The Eco Park is about 10 km from the International Airport, 13.6 km from Ultradanga, and 10.8 km from Chigrihata. Bus and taxi facility is available from Kolkata and its rest parts. Apart from this, bus number C8 from CT goes directly to Eco Tourism Park. There is an availability of bus numbers 46B and 217B from Chinar Park or City Center 2 living around the Esplanade.

There are many leisure activities available inside the park, such as Archery, Baby Cycling, Duo Cycling, E-Vike, Eco Kart, Gaming Zone, Speed Boat, Kayaking, Mickey Mouse, Paddle Boating, Rifle Suiting, Roller Skates, Angling, Cruise, remote car, trampoline, troy train ride, etc.

The park features cottages and conference halls for individual rent for the stay of the passengers, along with a large parking space, food, online ticket booking, etc.
Park hours
Open from Tuesday to Saturday 2.30 – 8.30 pm in the summer season (March 1 to October 31), Sundays and holidays from 12.00 to 8.30 pm, in the winter season (November 1 to February 28) Tuesday to Saturday from 12.00 noon Open from 11.00 am to 7.30 pm on Sundays and holidays. The park is closed on Mondays. The entrance fee to the park is Rs.30 per person. The ticket counters are closed at 5.30 pm.
How To Reach Eco Tourism Park Kolkata
By Air: The nearest airport to Eco Park is Kolkata International Airport. After coming to the airport, you can book a car or any normal taxi from the car rental company here. They’ll take you to the park. City buses also ply from the airport to the Eco-Tourism Park.
By Train: The nearest train station from the park is Railway Howrah Junction which is well connected to all the major cities of the country. One can hire prepaid taxis or cab services to reach the Eco Tourism Park. With regard to commuting by suburban local trains, the nearest station is Bidhan Nagar Railway Station. One can also hire a taxi from here or board a city bus to reach the park.
By Bus: City buses are available from Ultadanga, Kolkata Airport, Salt Lake, Chingrighata, and Baguiati. You can reach the park by taking any bus from here.
